What can hypnosis do for me?

Hypnosis can change unhelpful habits: smoking, overeating, restlessness, lack of focus, addiction, and more. It can also build new patterns or habits: self-confidence, regular exercise, eating patterns, focusing, relaxation techniques and lifestyle modificaton.

Hypnosis can alleviate: shyness, pain, guilt, anger, anxiety, phobias and fears. It is very effective with relationship issues, loss and grief.

What will happen in the first session?

Your first session you will learn about hypnosis and take the time to be comfortable with the idea. I will discuss your goals and reservations (if any) to determine if hypnotherapy can accomplish what you want to achieve.

Will I remember everything that happens in the session?

Yes, if you want to. Sometimes the conscious mind chooses to not remember, but that's your choice.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

There are 12 standard tests in the SHSS (Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale) which measure how well a subject conforms to the behavior of a classically hypnotized person. By these scales, about 5% of people are classically unhypnotizable, most people show moderate scores, and about 10% are hypnotizable to extreme depths and show the classical deep trance phenomena such as somnambulism, visual and auditory hallucinations, and ability to remain deeply in hypnosis with eyes open.

As mentioned, hypnotizability does not appear to show any obvious correlation with any of the usual personality traits or characteristics. Not only is gullibility not directly correlated, but gender, extraversion/introversion, and neurotic tendencies have also been shown not to correlate well with hypnotizability.

Are there any side effects from hypnosis?

Only good ones! You'll feel relaxed. More in control. You will begin to make noticeable changes in line with your goals.

Can it help me with my pain or nausea?

Absolutely. But with pain I need a doctor's letter to confirm that it is appropriate for you to have hypnosis treatments for pain reduction.

How successful is hypnosis for weight control and will I have to give up my favorite foods?

It's very successful, if you are serious and dedicated. You will still enjoy the foods you want to. However the quantities will be reduced and through hypnosis the appetite is satisfied and the inclination towards a healthy diet is intensified.

How successful is smoking cessation through hypnosis?

Very successful. I have worked with long term Smokers who have quit after 1 Session and stayed non smokers with maintenance sessions.

Approximately 20% of ex-smokers report quitting on their first attempt, while only 50% succeeded after 6 tries. Of successful quitters, 90% used individual methods of smoking cessation rather than organized programs, with 'cold turkey' being the method most often used. (Taylor & Dingle, 1994) An examination of multiple research studies show that a single session hypnosis treatment to stop smoking produced about a 25% success rate, whereas in excess of 70% of those engaging in 2 to 4 sessions of hypnosis quit smoking within weeks.
